This is the second Gopher Snake I saw that day
This was the second gopher snake (genus Pituophis) sighting. Gopher snakes are not poisonous. They kill their prey by constriction and suffocation. They often try to immitate a rattlesnake by coiling up and hissing and vibrating the tail. This guy was a small one, maybe a foot long.
