Desert Tarantula (Aphonopelma chalcodes) on Highway 58/Seven Mile Road intersection. Desert tarantulas can grow 2-3 inches long and is gray or brown in color. It is common to the Sonoran, Chihuahuan and Mojave deserts of Arizona, New Mexico and Southern California. Males are dark, almost black in color, while females are brown.
