Yosemite Valley - Tunnel View
I went to Yosemite on April 6, 2009, just for a day trip. I went up Hwy 140 thru Mariposa and El Portal this time, a route I had never taken before (I always go up the 41 or the 120, when it is open). It was a beautiful day and an equally beautiful drive! The hills thru the canyon were covered in poppies and other wildflowers, and the Redbud trees were blooming as well, adding splashes of magenta in the canyon. The valley was typically busy, even more so since it was Spring Break (I had totally forgotten about spring break), and there was road construction going on, but I still had a pleasant visit. I have booked my campground in Tuolumne Meadows in July. I can't wait to go!
Yosemite Valley - Yosemite Falls
The valley is still pretty brown, but I suppose it will be green next month as the snow continues to melt and the grasses start growing.
Yosemite Valley - Bridalveil Fall
Even in the summer when other waterfalls dry up, Bridalveil Fall continues to flow.
Hwy 140 - flower
Found these growing wild out on Hwy 140 near Mariposa. Looks like a daffodil of some sort.
Carmel Valley Rd
I drove down Carmel Valley Road on the way back from Big Sur and I came across this nice field full of Shooting Stars. Carmel Valley Road was a nice surprise, full of flower fields and little traffic. I found many types of flowers out here, including Lupine, Buttercups, Pacific Pea, Vetch, Shooting Stars, Popcorn Flower and many more.
The West Pinnacles
I wasn't able to really do any hiking here as the parking lot was full. But I am going back on May 1st for a camping trip :)
The West Pinnacles - Chia
I found quite a few Chia here. The first I have seen of these flowers in my trips this year so far.
Sequoia National Park
I went for a short trip to Sequoia National Park on April 3, 2009. It was short, because it started snowing when I was driving up the road to the Giant Forest. And not just a few flurries. It was full-on snowing and sticking to the road. The wildflowers looked promising up there, and the Redbud trees were in full bloom, so a return trip is definitely in my near future.
Giant Forest
Judging from his shorts, this guy was probably caught as off guard as I was by the snowstorm.
Giant Forest
No, those are not dust spots or moths on the pic. It was actually snowing up in the higher elevations when I went.
Pretty Faces
It was pretty overcast when I went to Sequoia, but I did manage to take a few wildflower pics.
