While not nearly as colorful as last year, there are still plenty of flowers to be found on Shell Creek Road, off of Highway 58.

Carrizo Plain - Baby Blue Eyes
Baby Blue Eyes are always a welcome site. They are my favorite Spring flower :)
Hwy 58 - Tansy Phacelia
As you walk, you can hear the gentle humming of the bees hard at work in the fields.

Wildflowers - Hwy 223
I drove down Highway 223 after work today to see the wildflowers in the sunlight. I had gone yesterday morning, but it was overcast (of course!). The fields are full of lupine, popcorn flower, fiddleneck, owl's clover and poppies. Acres and acres of flowers. What a sight to see! The lupine is really blooming off of the I-5 at the base of the Grapevine. I couldn't find any access roads to get closer for a good picture, but the view from the road is amazing.

Santa Rosa Plateau - March 14, 2009
I ventured out to the Santa Rosa Plateau on Saturday, March 14, 2009. It was my first trip out there, and I loved it. Lots of trails to walk on, and plenty of sunshine. I was a bit worried at first because there was some fog, but it burned off not long after I arrived. I originally came for the Chocolate Lilies, but I found a whole lot more than those. It was a great trip....despite the sunburn ;)
Chocolate Lily - Trans Preserve Trail
The rare Chocolate Lilies are in bloom on the Santa Rosa Plateau.
unknown blue flowers
Found these on the Granite Loop Trail. Anyone know what these are? Leave a comment.
Johnny Jump Ups
Found these on several trails - Trans Preserve Trail, Granite Loop Trail and the Vernal Pool Trail
Anza Borrego Desert State Park - March 14, 2009
I came here after my trip to Santa Rosa Plateau. It was a nice, sunny day and the flowers were in bloom here in Henderson Canyon. I guess the peak bloom was a few weeks ago, but there were still plenty of flowers to be found :)
Desert Dandlions and Pincushion
Henderson Canyon is covered in Desert Dandelions, Fremont Pincushion and Desert Chicory right now.
Sand Verbena
I must have come a few weeks too late for the peak bloom, because I only found a few Sand Verbena this time.
