I went on a road trip on Saturday, May 3, 2008, to several locations...the first stop being Nacimiento Lake Road. If you like wildflowers, this is a good place to go. I saw lots and lots of Chinese Houses, Purple Vetch, White Lupine, Elegant Clarkia and Lupine, as well as many other flower species. There were nice lupine fields along the road too. I didn't get over to San Antonio Lake or the mission, but I might just go back this weekend. I know there's lots more to see.
I drove down Jolon Road into King City, and then I went to the Pinnacles...the East side, since I had not been to that side before. (the entrance is located in the town of Soledad, CA - the west side entrance is located out of King City, CA). Again, I saw lots more Chinese Houses and Purple Vetch along the roadsides, and lots of Yellow Monkeyflower, Johnny Jump Ups, Linanthus, Pretty Faces and more along the High Peaks trail in the park. I didn't make it all the way up the trail due to time limits and a bad knee - lol. But I would like to go back again sometime. The park is beautiful. I also saw some wildlife, including a mule deer, a coyote and a chipmunk who was busily chattering away in a tree. So cute.
I next went to the Big Sur area, which, once again, did not disappoint. It was kind of foggy around Carmel, but going south down Highway 1, it was nice and sunny, and the waterfall trail at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park was open this time. I ended up taking a whole lot of pictures. The Big Sur coastline is just incredible.
I drove down Highway 46 to Paso Robles on the way back. I found even more wildflowers alongside the road, including Yellow Lupine, Purple Vetch, and some pretty pink and white flowers which I have not yet been able to identify.
I had a great trip, and I am looking forward to the next one :)
I posted a lot of pictures below. Enjoy!
